Serenity Prayer, Part 3
We discussed the first step, which is asking for the Serenity to accept those things we cannot change, next we looked at the Courage it takes to change the things we can. Now we ask for the Wisdom it takes to know the difference.
For so many in early recovery, the newfound sense of exhilaration we find in waking up in the morning and looking forward to the new day, finding that we are physically healthy, possessed with a clear mind and full of hope for the future, we sometimes feel invincible. It is in this state of mind that we may try to change things that we should let lie. We may test ourselves; we may think we do not need to follow the things we have learned in our recovery program.
It is a time when we need to reflect on the things that are important in our life – health, family, spirituality, our vacation. Focusing on those things that we can improve. That is wisdom. As we grow in recovery, we may tackle more problematic issues, but for now – easy does it.
